Gift and Reward: Christian Foundations & Personal Growth Manuals - Volumes 1&2
(Now both manuals in one “Two-for-the Price-of-One” e-Book!)
What is Gift and Reward all about? Many Christians are confused about the nature of salvation. On the one hand they see that the New Testament clearly teaches salvation is by grace, not works. It is given to us freely on the basis of what Christ has accomplished for us in His death and resurrection. And yet there are many conditional passages in the New Testament which seem to suggest that our final salvation depends on our efforts.
How can we reconcile these apparent contradictions? The only way to do so is to understand the difference between two New Testament words – gift and reward.
Salvation is a gift based on our faith in the finished work of Christ. However, there is a prize for every believer which will be given as a reward for our faithfulness to Christ and His Word.
Gift and Reward helps us to understand the place of works in the Christian's experience. There is a definite place for works in the Christian’s life. However, it is important to understand what that place is. The New Testament teaches us that works follow salvation. Good works are useless for meriting salvation. God never places good works before the unsaved.
God places the gift of salvation before the unsaved.
God places the reward of the prize before the saved.
We need to be clear in our minds about this distinction. Salvation is a gift which has nothing to do with our works.
The reward is a prize which is based entirely upon our works.
Understanding what the New Testament teaches about gift and reward, then, is vital to understanding the Christian walk.
To help Christian small groups work through these subjects biblically we have now produced two previously separate books on one low-cost e-book – two for the price of one! Each book has ten chapters of study material for the leader and at the end of each chapter there is a study guide which may be printed for small group discussion.
The Gift deals with the subject of our salvation. Some of the things covered are:
*The gift of salvation – is it based on what we do for God or what He has done for us?
*The power of identity – is it what we do that determines who we are, or is it knowing who we are that will determine what we will do?
*How do we align our thinking with our new creation status?
*Who are you – sinner, saint, or both? Does salvation produce spiritual schizophrenics, or a new creation?
*What are the four major keys to living in victory over sin?
*What is the flesh?
*What is the difference between a natural person, a carnal person and a spiritual person?
*What is ‘the world’ and what is our relationship to it now?
*Know your enemy. Who is Satan and how do we resist him?
*The armor of God and spiritual warfare.
*Abiding in the true Vine. Are we Christ-dependent or co-dependent?
*How to discover your gift. Seven biblical principles that will help you discover your ministry gift.
*Is the baptism in the Holy Spirit primarily given to make us happy, or fruitful?
*Passing the baton on. How to make disciples.
This manual has helped many to become firmly established in their Christian lives. Here are just some examples:
“The Gift is unreal. We did the study on ‘Overcoming the Flesh’ at cell group last night. It makes such a difference when you understand foundational stuff like that” (Carla McMartin – Tallai, Queensland, Australia)
“The Gift has given those that have been through the course a whole new way of approaching their Christianity. It is a great joy when you see people’s faces light up when understanding dawns on them. That is what this course, The Gift, has done. It has changed lives. I greatly recommend this course to every pastor, cell group leader, etc.” (Pastor Paul McGovern, Bellingen Christian Life Centre, NSW, Australia)
“I highly endorse The Gift. It excels any resources on foundational teaching that I have seen in 20 years of ministry. We have made it compulsory study before entering any ministry position." (Pastor Jill Knights, Freedom Ministries, Apostolic Church, Wangaratta, Victoria, Australia)
“The Gift has been a vital tool in our youth ministry. It has provided us with many clear and easy to understand illustrations that have assisted us in ministering with our youth & young adults. It is both easy to understand and enjoyable reading." (Jason & Courtney Bowen, Youth Leaders, Grace Christian Church, Queensland, Australia)
The Reward outlines the responsibilities of grace. The purpose of salvation is not only to take us from judgment and condemnation but also unto holiness and glory.
Grace releases us to be all that God desires for us to be. But more than this - He has even promised to reward us for walking worthy of His Son whilst on earth. This reward, however, is a prize which can be forfeited. Only when we have successfully run our race can we say, as Paul said, that there is a crown of righteousness laid up for us in the age to come.
There will be many surprises at the judgement seat of Christ, and many tears also. Christians who despise their inheritance by carnal living, as Esau did, will discover that they have forfeited their reward. Thus, the apostle Paul urges us to run our race in such a way that we may receive the prize.
Some of the topics covered in this manual are:
*What is the difference between gift and reward?
*What is the judgement seat of Christ? Being saved from sin means that we will not stand before the Great White Throne together with unbelievers, to be judged for our sins (Jn.5:24). These have already been judged at the cross of Christ. However, each believer will appear at the judgement seat of Christ. What is the connection between gift and reward and the judgement seat of Christ?
*How can we obtain grace from God? Grace is God’s ability in the place of our inability. But how do we access the grace of God?
*What is God’s purpose in chastening, and how can we be sure we are responding to chastening in such a way as to profit from it?
*Peace & holiness. The writer says that without these two things we will not see the Lord. What does this mean?
*How to find mercy at the judgment seat of Christ.
*The coming kingdom. Christ is coming to reign over the earth and He wants you and I to reign with Him.
*And much more...
