So many discipleship programs just don’t work. This is because of their orientation. They are either works-driven, leading to independence, or other-person-focused resulting in co-dependency.

True New Testament discipleship is the art of helping other Christians become Christ-focused and Christ-dependent. After all, Jesus described Himself as the Vine and us as the branches. Christianity only really works when we are connected to Him in a living, vital way.

Christians who are works-driven draw from their own energy, the flesh. Co-dependent Christians draw from the resources of others – other people's flesh! Christ-dependent believers have learned to access the grace of God every moment of every day. That’s true, New Testament living.
