Pastors, Save Hundreds Of Hours By Using Our (Non-Accredited) Bible School Material

The following Bible School training material was written by the Senior Pastor of New Beginnings Christian Church, Ken Legg. Its aim is to provide identity-driven ministry training that will produce people of influence. Ken says, "We believe, that it's not what you do that determines who you are, but knowing who you are that will determine what you will do." The course provides solid biblical foundations for Christian ministry, combining biblical studies, personal development, theology and practical ministry skills.

Course Components

Counselling God's Way

Subject Purpose: To equip students with basic skills of information gathering and communication techniques in counselling.

Subject Description: Counselling God's Way is an introduction to identity-driven counselling, i.e. it acquaints students with the divine resources at their disposal in Christian counselling and in life. After laying a solid foundation for Christian counselling based on the believer's new creation identity, this subject then demonstrates how to apply Biblical principles when counselling Christians who are struggling with negative emotions such as depression, fear, phobias, anger, worry, stress and other issues such as sexual abuse, addiction, harmful relations, etc. The unit also includes a set of 20 DVD's.

Individual Subject Cost: Standard Level (CGW/S) - $195

Biblical Introductions

Subject Purpose: That students will be able to identify and defend the grounds upon which Christians believe the Bible to be the basis for Christian faith and living.

Subject Description: Christians believe that the Bible is the Word of God, but not many can adequately say why they believe it is. Typical reasoning goes like this: "I believe the Bible is the Word of God." "Why?" "Because it says it is." This is circular reasoning. The purpose of Biblical Introductions is to examine the basis for believing the authority of the Scriptures, and also to provide a general background and introduction to the Bible. This unit should be a prerequisite to all other Biblical studies.

Individual Subject Cost: Standard Level (BI/S) - $65

Making Sense of Church History

Subject Purpose: That the student will be able to interpret data from Church history in a way that the Church of today might benefit.

Subject Description: "The one thing we learn from history is that we don’t learn from history." This applies as much to Church history as it does to secular history. The record of the Church is that we often repeat the mistakes of the past. A basic knowledge of Church history, therefore, is vital to the well-being of the Church today. Making Sense of Church History provides an overview of the past 2,000 years of the Church age in specific time frames, highlighting some its defining moments and key figures, and learning from the lessons of the past.

Individual Subject Cost: Standard Level (MSCH/S) - $65

Old Testament Survey

Subject Purpose: That students will be able to defend Biblical explanations for the origins, purposes, sufferings and destiny of mankind as revealed in the Old Testament.

Subject Description: Old Testament Survey provides a comprehensive introduction to every book of the Old Testament, stating its relevance to our Christian understanding and experience. Only the Bible can adequately explain the origins of all things, the purpose of life, the reason for suffering, the way of salvation and life after death. The Old Testament is vital to a proper understanding of the New Testament. As the saying goes, "The New is in the Old contained; the Old is by the New explained." There is a particularly detailed focus on the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Bible) and a strong emphasis on Christ as the central message of the Bible.

Individual Subject Cost: Standard Level (OTS/S) - $95

Discovering My Ministry Gift

Subject Purpose: The purpose of this subject is to help students identify, develop and use their spiritual gifts.

Subject Description: Every person who is born again has received a particular gift, or gifts, for ministry. The impact of our lives largely depends upon our discovery and use of our gift/s. Yet sadly, reports show that as many as 80 percent of Christians do not know what their spiritual gift is. This subject will take students on a journey where they will be able to identify almost thirty of the ministry gifts listed in the New Testament. They will learn how other members of the Body of Christ became aware of their gifts and some of the key principles that will empower them to make that discovery for themselves. An extensive questionnaire will also be used in this process.

Individual Subject Cost: Standard Level (DMMG/S) - $65

From Strength To Strength

Subject Purpose: To enable the student to explain the distinction between the gift of salvation, which does not involve our efforts or works, and the promised reward for faithfulness which does include our works, identifying some Scripture verses relating to each category.

Subject Description: From Strength To Strength expounds the outworking of grace through Christian growth. God has not only saved us from condemnation but also unto a life of holiness and good works. His grace releases us to be all that God intends for us to be. He has even promised to reward us for walking worthy of His Son whilst on earth! This subject first distinguishes between the gift of salvation and the prize that will be given as a reward for Christian faithfulness. It then explains what the reward consists of and how the Christian can press on, from strength to strength, towards the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Individual Subject Cost: Standard Level (FSTS/S) - $65

Authentic Christianity

Subject Purpose: That students be equipped to detect the errors of legalism and licentiousness and to defend against them.

Subject Description: In New Testament times the purity of the gospel was already under siege. Some of the epistles were written to defend the true nature of the gospel against legalism on the one hand, and licentiousness on the other. Authentic Christianity is a brief exposition of three vital New Testament epistles - Romans, Galatians and Hebrews. These epistles were written against a background in which the gospel was either being explained, clarified or defended. They are as relevant today as they were to the age in which they were written.

Individual Subject Cost: Standard Level (AC/S) - $95

Motivated For Missions

Subject Purpose: That students be able to plan and work on an evangelistic venture within a group context.

Subject Description: "Christ's last command is the Church's first priority." This statement lies at the heart of this subject. Christ's Great Commission to the Church to take the gospel to every person and to all nations is explored. It provides a broad perspective of this task, from personal witnessing to global missions. We examine some current trends in evangelism, training and missionary strategy and also equip students in some skills in personally sharing the gospel.

Individual Subject Cost: Standard Level (MFM/S) – Available for postage and handling cost $15.

Pastoral Leadership

Subject Purpose: That students will be able to provide community leadership and support systems.
Subject Description: The Church rarely rises to a level above that of its leadership. This awesome reality places a huge responsibility on the Church to make leadership development a priority in its budget and training. This subject focuses on principles which are essential for pastoral leadership. These include, a) What is involved in the role and responsibilities of effective pastoral leadership; b) The necessary support mechanisms and structures that provide checks, balances; and, c) The key requirements essential for developing leadership skills.

Individual Subject Cost: Standard Level (PL/S) - $95

Small Group Ministry

Subject Purpose: That the student be able to both identify the benefits of the role of small groups and to participate in a small group.

Subject Description: The function of small groups as a means of edification of believers and outreach to unbelievers is explored throughout this course, under the following headings: contrasting congregation and cell, elements of successful small group leadership, caring for God’s people, teaching, training and interpersonal ministry in small groups. Then, making use of the book Life Seekers, by Ken Legg, the subject of evangelism in small groups is developed.

Individual Subject Cost: Standard Level (SGM/S) - $80

Truths That Transform

Subject Purpose: That students be able to defend and articulate some of the major doctrines of the Christian Faith.

Subject Description: Truths That Transform provides an introduction to the following major doctrines of the Bible: Theology (the doctrine of God), Angelology (the doctrine of angels), Anthropology (the doctrine of man), (Christology) the doctrine of Christ, Pneumatology (the doctrine of the Holy Spirit), Soteriology (the doctrine of salvation), Ecclesiology (the doctrine of the Church), and Eschatology (the doctrine of the last things). Each subject is explored from its biblical basis and its practical relevance to everyday living.

Individual Subject Cost: Standard Level (TTT/S) - $95

New Testament Survey

Subject Purpose: That students will be able to explain and defend the doctrine of the Person of Christ as revealed in the New Testament.

Subject Description: The New Testament provides the only authentic record of the life of Christ (in the gospels) and of the birth of the Church (in Acts). But more than this, it explains to us the Christian life (in the epistles) and informs us of the Church's triumphant climax (in the book of Revelation). New Testament Survey first introduces the student to the world of the New Testament, looking at its political, cultural and religious background. This is followed by an introduction to, and overview of, each of the twenty-seven books of the New Testament. The unit also comes with a set of 8 DVD's explaining the distinctions between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant.
